Fighting for Improved Futures
The Fight Society CIC - Comp. No. 17101674
Unlike a standard commercial gym, every drop of sweat in the TFS training venue contributes toward social missions like reducing youth crime, improving mental health, fostering inclusion and helping with addictions.
Our Community Approach:
The team at TFS are working hard to create a space that feels professional and welcoming, while maintaining a grit that is expected at a combat gym. We are trying to keep the membership costs low and would like to run initiatives to help low-income families or people to join (funded).
The Activity Warehouse has the café which is friendly and welcoming, coffees and food, like a community centre. Then the training facility will look more like a traditional martial arts Dojo, with a lot of training equipment. It will have the ethos as well, posters and quotes, while understanding that not everyone can operate in this environment.
The way we will manage this is through the different styles of training:
The Mixed Martial Arts has a very relaxed approached, very little authority, banter between the members and the coaches, some very hard training and does involve a lot of contact. This is the ultimate escape from all the stress and the cr*p life throws at you.
Boxing has a relaxed approach too, hard training without too much shouting, more respect for the coaches, but no bowing or the discipline of standing in lines quietly while the Coach speaks.
Kickboxing has a higher level of discipline. Line work and listening is expected. Respect for the coaches and the training.
The Traditional Ju-jitsu will involve a high level of discipline with a uniform (Gi) and belt system. Members must bow on to the mats as an example.
When it comes to working with community groups, charities, schools and organisations, our aim is to help where we can, to design lessons and provide instructors to best fit the enquiry. We have a broad range of coaches and most can say they have more likely been where the person (or people) are now. We call the MMA 'All Sinners' because none of us are saints. But we have learnt our lessons and now want to give back. Training in some form helped all the coaches, and continues to now.
To enable TFS to be in the best position to help, we are making sure we get things right from the start. Our governance is agreed and in place. Our safeguarding goes above and beyond with expert advice from our DSL (our policies are online). We are fully insured. Our coaches are experienced and capable, friendly with enhanced DBS checks and undergo regular training. Safe and fun training is extremely important to us.
